World class brain surgeon claims cells phone cause brain cancer: “100% certain”
(Note: industry representative Rodney Croft disagrees. He uses the thermal arguement as a straw man by claiming that the cancer effect would be caused by “heating up the brain” but cell phones don’t cause cancer because of a heating effect, they cause cancer
from a non thermal effect – see this nice summary)
Emai Professor Rodney Croft – Executive Director of ACRBR
rcroft@uow.edu.au and ask him to reveal WHO is funding his research. Shouldn’t that factor be disclosed? Ask him specifically about the contributions of Telstra http://www.telstra.com.au/homephone/ and whether that skews his research results.
RODNEY CROFT, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, ACRBR: No. There really has been a lot of research done to date and the research has very clearly shown that there aren’t any effects. With children, I really don’t think that there is any evidence suggesting that this might be a problem. There isn’t anything to suggest that we may have to be a little bit more cautious.
TICKY FULLERTON: The ACRBR boasts some of our most experiences scientists, but as we’ll see, it also has strong links with the industry.

When it is all said and done:
1) Caveat Emptor (buyer beware, especially of industry sponsored “safety” research masquerading as university research)
2) keep your cell phones turned off until YOU want to contact someone (otherwise use it as your personal and highly convenient portable answering machine!)
3) keep your cell phone on SPEAKER function and don’t hold it up to your head
4) text more than talk (at least in this case it is an arms length away from your brain)
