Coconut oil – omega 6 to the rescue for Crohn’s

Dr. Weeks’ Comment: Omega 6 oils are being maligned as unhealthy seed oils but it is the processing and not the seed oil which is toxic. The human body needs omega 6 oils – but it needs healthy omega 6 oils not rancid, adulterated oils.
Who do you know with IBD, Crohns:
Coconut oil (with omega 6 and no omega 3 oil) was administered as follows:
100 mL of prewarmed coconut oil was given as a rectal enema
It was administered daily
This treatment was continued for at least 6 months (the duration mentioned in the report)
The administration was done through the distal ostomy branch (the part of the colon that was diverted by sigmoidostomy)
The treatment was initiated when other conventional treatments had failed and the patient refused proctectomy (surgical removal of the rectum). The rationale for using coconut oil was that it contains fatty acids with relatively short chain lengths, which might have similar beneficial effects as short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) that are typically used to treat diversion colitis but were not available in pharmaceutical formulation at the time.
