Today’s study appears in the December 28, 2008 volume
of Food Nutrition Research (Cho K, Cederholm T. 2008;52.
doi: 10.3402/fnr.v52i0.1654.)

This scientific study was conducted at the Karolinska
Institute in Sweden, a facility many Americans have
never heard of.

The Karolinska Institute is the site from which Nobel
Prizes are awarded each year.

Author’s comments:

“Dietary calcium intake is assumed important in the
prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. However,
people in countries with a high calcium intake from
commodities such as milk and milk products have a
high incidence of hip fracture.”

Scientists Observed:

“There was no significant relationship between calcium
intake and age, gender, bone mineral density, serum
calcium or albumin, type of fracture or body mass index.”

Researcher’s Conclusions:

“Hip fracture patients had a mean calcium intake above
the recommended daily intake.”

“The relationship between calcium intake and fracture
susceptibility is complex.”
