Warning: no WIFI on the Pregnant Belly!

Dr. Weeks’ Comment:  Now the roosters are coming home to roost. WIFI and cell phones, predicted to be killing people after 10 years of use, now seem to be responsible for needless tragedies.  One woman now believes that her 11 month old son’s cancer was caused by electromagnetic pollution from hours of watching movies on her ipad which was positioned inches away from the developing fetus for 7 months….  If you were Apple Corporation, would you be warning people about this?  Well are you surprised to learn that, in fact, they did warn you! They told you, as condition for activating the iphone that you are warned to NEVER have the iphone on and closer than 5/8 of an inch from your body. That means you are warned never to TOUCH the iphone when it is on. Think about the ludicrousness of that warning… for example, how do you safely turn on the iphone in the first place?

Here is what the iPhone manual tells you….

“Exposure to Radio Frequency Energy from iPhone

iPhone transmits and receives radio frequency (RF) energy through its antennas. The iPhone cellular antenna is located at the bottom edge of iPhone, to the left of the Home button. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth® antenna is located at the top edge of iPhone, to the right of the headset jack…….  When carrying iPhone, keep it 1.5 cm (5/8 inch) or more away from your body to ensure exposure levels remain at or below the maximum levels. Avoid cases with metal parts.”

What about the toxicity of the iPad?  What do they tell you in the iPad manual?

“… You can further limit your exposure by limiting the time using iPad  in wifi mode, since time is a factor in how much exposure  a person receives; and by placing more distance between your body and iPad since exposure drops off dramatically with distance…”

Here is what moms are telling moms in chat groups. Some intuit the danger, others blithely ignore it…

Ok ladies,

I looked up several reputable medical websites and each say the same, placing the laptop on your lap is not dangerous, but they do advise NOT to place the laptop on bump (same dangers as hot baths, amongst other reasons) at any point of pregnancy.

So the advicements were chair & desk, mostly for posture, but that settee & coffee table, etc, would be acceptable, but if needs be lap should be fine.

Hope this helps,

AND

Has anyone asked their doctor or done any research about the safety of iPad use during pregnancy (or anytime for that matter.)”¨My dh bought me one for the holidays and I’m totally addicted, but I can’t help but wonder if I’m doing any harm to my unborn child or myself for that matter. Call me a litle neurotic!

What kind of damage could you possibly be doing?  to me it seems no different than using an iPhone or an iPod touch or using a laptop or the tv a lot. ”¨”¨I think you should be fine.

I think it’s 100% fine. I honestly don’t see how this could be harmful. ”¨”¨Enjoy your new toy!

I just read an article (an interview) a few weeks back on AOL about how much radiation we are all getting (especially kids with cell phones and wireless gaming especially ones that scan their bodies) with all the wireless things we have in our houses.”¨”¨http://www.lemondrop.com/2010/10/13/zapped-louise-ann-gittleman-electronic-pollution-emf-s/?icid=main|main|dl5|sec1_lnk3|178017”¨”¨I treat my ipad the same way as I treat my laptop. I keep it off my lap. Other than that I use it a few hours everyday and don’t put it on my stomach. I don’t have a TV in my bedroom and so I watch my netflix on my ipad every night. They say the worst thing we all have in our houses are wireless phones, nobody has house phones with cords anymore. Microwaves too.”¨”¨Since I got pregnant I also started staying away from the Microwave I still use it but I don’t stand near it. I also try to go in the other room. My DH said that even if I did all that there are so many waves bouncing around outside too. If your ipad pulls up what networks it can connect to outside you can see that the signals come from so many houses and businesses. I usually see signals from like 6-12 different places pop up. Kinda freaks me out I feel like I’m being irradiated everywhere LOL. ”¨”¨I don’t know how bad it actually is for us but it is crazy to think how much is bouncing around. I don’t go as far as to shut it off the wireless when its not in use (the computer wireless network and cell phones) but it still freaks me out especially since DH pointed out how many signals are floating around outside.
