Dr. Weeks’ Comment: Dr. Carroll is a brilliant eye doctor (optometrist) and friend of mine who, like me, for years recommended omega 3 (fish and krill) oil to his patients. Once I learned that omega 3 is bad for you (suffocation) relative to omega 6 oils which are not rancid (commercial vegetable oils which are toxic) I stopped recommending them to my patient and, not surprisingly, I found many of my colleagues were skeptical of endorsing omega 6. Let’s think clearly for a moment on this topic: we all know that the great majority of the omega 6 oils consumed world wide are unhealthy. They are bad quality omega 6 oils which derive from glyphosate drenched, commercially processed, rancid and oxidized corn, soy and canola oil. This is the oil used to deep fry junk food and to preserve baked goods. But the UNADULTERED oils are the healthiest. Dr Carrol was skeptical but open minded. So I shared the research and to my delight, Dr Carroll had the intellectual honest and the clinician integrity to change his mind and his practice habits. He no longer recommends omega 3 (fish and krill) oil supplements.
Here is his Essay on Longevity and the power of unadulterated Omega 6 Oil
~
The Holy Grail of Longevity
By Donald A. Carroll, Optometric Physician, NTP
Introduction
This essay should never have had to be written. I am not a medical doctor, scientist, or professional writer. I simply wanted to be healed of my infirmities and get my body into a vessel that would support my being. My journey really started out when I was in my teens and could not understand why I had so many allergies, lowered immune system, and stress from a young age. My roommate at Academy could not understand why I had to pour cold water over my body to get relief from the welts on my body to get to sleep at night; hives seemed eager to break out at the first hint of stress. I took antibiotics to try to cure my strep throat so many times until they finally gave up and took my tonsils out. They did the scratch tests on my back to see what I was allergic to and gave me injections of serums to alleviate my allergies, but the shots hurt worse than the allergies, so I quit taking them. Nothing worked anyway to alleviate these health problems.
I was becoming an “old man” in my late twenties when I developed cataracts. This is truly unusual…. I started looking for answers to my dilemma. This led me reading Dr. Jonathan Wright’s books on natural healing with antioxidants. When I was in my late thirties, I started to get prostate infections. I was ageing fast. My hair started turning white, I became overweight, and I developed bleeding ulcers from stress. By the time I was in my fifties I developed bursitis and took fish oil to alleviate it because the flaxseeds I was eating did not cure it. In my sixties I developed this horrible rash on my body of Psoriasis. It was so bad on my back I could not sleep at night and was bleeding on my shirts. Then to my relief, I read a book by Jeff T. Bowles on the amazing benefits of high dose Vitamin D. What a relief to find it helped so many things! But still my health issues were piling up. By the time I was in my seventies I twisted my knee and I was hobbling around like a very elderly man even though I didn’t feel that way. Even taking high doses of fish oil and glucosamine did not help the sprain.
This is when I discovered the secret to longevity. This book was written because I shared this secret with others in the field of longevity and they did not grasp it. Longevity researchers like Dr David Sinclair are looking for a new drug to create long life. Many researchers are simply looking in the wrong direction. They are trying to put together their own secret formula of this and that diet, vitamin, mineral or drug to little or no avail.
The Famine of Omega-6
The Elixir of the Holy Grail
In 1929 Burr and Burr did a study on how important Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) are. They found that young rats subjected to a complete fat-starvation diet over a period of several months develop disease and soon die.[i] Then in the 1950s, Johanna Budwig found that in studying blood samples from people with cancer, diabetes, and liver disease they consistently lacked linoleic acid (LA), the parent omega-6 essential fatty acid. She developed a flax seed oil formula combined with protein, high in alpha linolenic acid (ALA), the parent omega-3 essential fatty acid. With this oil, she claimed to successfully treat a staggering list of ailments: cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, acne, and other skin conditions, vision and hearing, constipation, sterility, dry skin, menstrual problems, glandular atrophy, fatty liver, gallstones, pancreatic malfunctions, kidney degeneration, blood disorders, anoxia, arthritic conditions, and childhood diseases such as mumps, measles, and swollen tonsils, immune deficiency, and low vitality.
Now, for some reason, at the turn of the century despite Budwig’s successful studies, the health recommendations of the scientists and health professionals directed to use the omega-3 derivatives, EPA and DHA from fish oil despite all the previous research on omega-6 and omega-3 from seed oils. This is what I was taught in nutritional therapy classes years ago. Omega-6 was the “bad guy” evidently as I was told it causes inflammation. When I was taught this in school I was confused since omega-6 had the most powerful natural anti-inflammatory PG1 as its chief derivative. It seemed like there was a conspiracy against omega-6 by the carnivores or possibly the pharmaceutical industry and fish oil companies. It is the old trick of making something the opposite of what it really is or creating a market. To this day they are continuing to do study after study on fish oil even when most of them fail.
After reading a book by Brian Peskin, The PEO Solution[ii], several times it finally started to sink in that the solution to aging and disease are EFAs with the higher ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 instead of fish oil. Since omega-6 produces GLA which makes PG1 this makes it the key, solving one of the main issues with health which is inflammation. Most every disease has at its root inflammation. Peskin shows from a physiology perspective how every cell in your body including the skin, organs, and nerves are primarily made with omega-6 – even the mitochondria which power the cells. For oxygen to get into the cells it must have a healthy cell wall which is primarily made of omega-6. Don’t minimize this factor since getting oxygen into the cell is the key factor in killing cancer. Cancer can’t live with oxygen. This was discovered by Nobel Prize winner Otto Warburg.[iii] Peskin brilliantly refutes the arguments that Omega-6 is inflammatory in the 2017 Three Seminal Findings posted on his web site: brianpeskin.com. The Kuopio Ischemic Heart Disease Risk Factor Study goal was to use the key inflammation marker that medicine uses, C-reactive protein (CRP) to directly measure the serum levels of parent omega 6 (LA) and its derivatives GLA, DGLA, and AA. The conclusion was that the higher the serum LA the lower CRP. Low serum LA was associated with higher CRP (inflammatory) levels. Let this be understood; pure unadulterated organic non-GMO Omega-6 is very highly anti-inflammatory.[iv]
Eicosanoid expert Paul Beatty gives a brilliant summary of the problem in today’s lipid research: “The neglect of lipid biochemistry in clinical medicine has led to many incorrect assumptions, the misleading one that many researchers naively accepted-long-chain derivatives of parent omega-6 EFAs promote inflammation. This is totally incorrect”. Both omega-6 and omega-3 are very important. However, omega-6 is much more important.
The host of findings of the benefits of omega-6 are astounding. The same health issues Johanna Budwig found to benefit with omega-3 and protein are found with omega-6 and more. The blood sugar levels are normalized, the blood pressure is normalized. Cellulite disappears. The skin becomes beautiful. The joints return to youthfulness. Sleep issues resolve. The thyroid, adrenals, kidneys, liver, and pancreas live in harmony as well as your brain. Think about it! Every cell in your body is functioning at an optimal level in the blood, tissues, hormones, and organs. You can watch a video of what the blood cells are doing after ingestion. Within minutes they start moving freely with no stagnation. Your body is finally working literally like a well-oiled machine.[v]
David Horrobin, MD, PhD, hypothesized decades ago that “proteins are literally afloat in a lipid sea, and their functioning is dependent on the behavior of the configuration of the lipid sea”. Now we see why Johanna Budwig years ago found out why omega-6 deficiency caused those diseases.
One other thing that should be noticed about omega-6 is that it is a powerful detoxifier through the oil metabolic pathways. It even detoxes a highly toxic aldehyde, a byproduct of sugar. Now you can feel safer eating your honey.[vi] Another interesting fact is that the seeds that omega-6 are pressed from contain the genetic material to start a new plant. The potential for these genes to influence our genes with new youthful life is a whole other dimension to be explored. In the past we thought we were governed by our genetic make-up we inherited from our parents. Now we know that with the discovery of epigenetics we can change our destiny by our lifestyle and diet. The omega-6 seed oils are the conduit to longevity.
Once we understand that omega-6 is the foundation of health, how do we incorporate its use into our lifestyle? Organic, non-GMO, cold pressed seed oils are the best. Hemp seed oil is one of the highest in the omega-6: omega-3 ratio and has some GLA. The article The Composition of Hemp Seed Oil and Its Potential as an Important Source of Nutrition recommends 3-5 tablespoons daily. I like to crush a clove of garlic and mix it with the oil like a salad dressing and spoon it over my food. Some of the other high omega-6 oils are black cumin seed oil, grape seed oil, black raspberry seed oil, safflower seed oil, sesame seed oil and sunflower seed oil. Some of the nuts high in omega-6 are walnut and pecan.
Black cumin seed oil has antioxidant, antidiabetic, antihistaminic, antihypertensive, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antimicrobial, and antitumor effects. What more could be expected from a fantastic elixir?[vii] All the seed oils have many other lipids, nutrients, minerals, and vitamins included with them, and possibly other things we have not yet discovered. A combination of several of the oils can create a synergistic blend of super powerful nutrition.
Examples of entering the vitality of the Holy Grail of Omega-6
In my research to finding the best omega-6 seed oils I came upon Roger Snow (hemphearts.com) and his personal testimony of how much hemp seeds had helped him. Roger Snow used 6 tablespoons a day and in 6 months all his significant major ailments were mostly gone. He has held this going on 10 years. Now you can be like one of my patients who said I am not going to try anything unless there are double blind studies on it, or you can be motivated enough to say I am going to try it and give it 6 months and see what happens.
At this time, I was fortunate to meet Dr Weeks (www.weeksmd.com) who told me that he had almost 100% success with healing ailments. He was using a blend of three high omega-6 seed oils. I decided to see what they would do for me. I had developed a sprained knee and was hobbling about even though I had been taking high doses of fish oil and glucosamine. I decided to give it a try and could not believe how quickly I started feeling amazing. In 2 days I felt like dancing my knee was healed and my energy was off the charts. A skin cancer I had on my forehead fell off and neuropathy in my toes disappeared in weeks. I no longer have aches and pains. My skin is like babies’ skin and I also sleep like one to. I feel like a new man. In order to get this success quickly you need to use several of the oils synergistically. The formula Dr weeks introduced me to was Soul by Rain international[viii]. This formula not only uses the oils but the flour from 50% Black Cumin seed 25% Black Raspberry seed and 25% Chardonnay Grape seed. I used this twice a day. I also used the Bend product twice a day for my knee which is an omega-6 product with some glucosamine and other joint nutrients. Dr Weeks has many videos of other patients that have had success with this product most of the time working very quickly. Omega-6 is truly the elixir of the holy grail.
I also found that https://andreasseedoils.com/ has some very good black cumin seed oil this is what I used externally for my skin cancer. It is interesting that Andreas and other seed oil experts found success with the high omega-3 blends but I bet that if it were tested out that it is the omega-6 in those blends that is the true elixir. Olive oil which is high in omega-9 is a good oil but mostly used for its high polyphenols. I found the best use of coconut oil was for use in skin rashes, when I had my psoriasis issues it was the only thing that helped. I use hemp seed oil for all of my cooking and salad and food dressings. The studies I have read state that as long as the oils are used under low heat (200 degrees) very little degradation is found. Remember it is the essential fatty acids that our body does not make and omega-6 is found in every cell wall and mitochondria. As our bodies repair every night while we are sleeping we want to make new cells, new tissues, new organs, new hormones, so an abundance of omega-6 will keep them renewed instead of aging.
Longevity Essentials
I can go into all the things that will help longevity but in my case the omega-6 seed oils was the premier ingredient. The next thing that really helps is 25,000 units of D3 with K2. The sunshine vitamin. The labs that test for D3 levels are finally raising their normal limits to 120. This is about equal to ½ hour of sunbathing. Other important things are a good gut micro-biome that controls so many things. A primarily organic plant-based diet. At least 8 hours of sleep. Very small amounts of sugars and starches and detoxing when needed.
