Dr. Weeks’ Comment: Dr. Rudolf Steiner, brilliant and provocative educator and founder of Anthroposophy and mentor for the original Anthroposophical medical doctors (see PAAM) advised (and I paraphrase) “Nothing is good or bad. Everything has consequences. You must strategize to receive the consequences one desires.” Now we see that the oft maligned “sin” of coffee has even more health benefits (see this post and this and this and and this) than I have previously reported … now we see it helps prevent kidney stones (see below). But remember: coffee has the benefits… NOT the candy drinks made from healthy (organic) coffee with cream and sugar and Italian soda added!

Coffee & Kidney Stones

"I don't know where my ideas come from.
I will admit, however, that one key
ingredient is caffeine. I get a couple
cups of coffee into me and weird things
just start to happen."
”• Gary Larson

Is it good, is it bad? I still haven't
made up my mind, but there are times
that life seems impossible to live
without a cup, and the latest science
seems so convincing...
While the after-dinner option of coffee
percolates, you might be asked "One
lump or two?" In the past, I've
associated coffee drinking with
kidney stones, and "one lump or
two” remained a passed-upon option.
Now, I am not so certain.
The following caffeine/kidney stone study
Was published in the December, 2014
Issue of the American Journal of Nutrition.
A group of collaborating researchers
from various institutions including
Harvard Medical School and Catholic
University in Rome assessed the risk
of kidney stones from 217,883 coffee
drinkers in three studies and found:
"Participants in the highest quintile
of caffeine intake had a 26% lower risk
of developing stones in the Health
Professional Cohort, a 29% lower risk in
the National Health Study I Cohort, and
a 31% lower risk in the National Health
Study II Cohort..."
Their Conclusion:
"Caffeine intake is independently associated
with a lower risk of incident kidney stones."

"The drinking of coffee is an absolute sin!
Our Glorious Prophet did not partake of coffee
because he knew it dulled the intellect, caused
ulcers, hernia and sterility; he understood
that coffee was nothing but the Devil's ruse."
- Orhan Pamuk (2006 Nobel Literature winner)
